Rum & Eggnog Latte is great to enjoy during tree trimming, present wrapping, or just to celebrate and spread some holiday cheer.
How can you resist creamy hot eggnog, bold coffee, a splash of rum, all topped with frothed milk and a dusting of nutmeg? The ultimate eggnog recipe for a delicious latte.
This spiked eggnog recipe is a holiday classic and a party favourite. Sometimes you want a HOT drink. Move over Starbucks, this is the BEST eggnog coffee latte. It pairs perfectly with my Christmas croissant recipe.
Are you in the holiday spirit yet? I just heard today the Jonas Brothers released their new Christmas album. Loving the sounds of this. We even got our outdoor Christmas lights up (yes BEFORE Halloween). Much more enjoyable to do in cool not freezing weather.
My family is already drooling thinking about Christmas morning sandwiches, our family tradition for decades. Now the grandkids request them too.
If you have never tried to make a latte at home, you are in for a treat. They are SUPER easy and budget-friendly too. YES, you can create that super frothy foam topping EASILY.
RECIPE and INSTRUCTIONS for this eggnog coffee are at the bottom of the post.
Once you give this latte recipe a try, you will want more homemade lattes. Here are a few:
Spiked Eggnog Coffee Ingredients
If you do not have a fancy espresso machine, don’t fret (neither do I). You can still make this easily at home.
Here is what you will need:
- good quality eggnog
- great tasting rum
- *(affiliate link) instant espresso (yes that is right)
- nutmeg
Recipe Tips
Did you know you can make a latte with instant coffee? I know the coffee fanatics may not think this is ideal. This is a GREAT way to enjoy lattes at home without an espresso machine.
TIP: I even make lattes with strong, bold coffee too. Do you have a* Keurig machine (affiliate)? You can make espresso on demand.
Now, when it comes to making that frothy topping, here is my GO-TO METHOD that works every time! Buy THIS *(affiliate link) milk frother. I could not make lattes without it. Makes a GREAT Christmas gift.

You can never go wrong with popcorn balls on the treat tray. These white chocolate covered popcorn balls look like snowballs trimmed with holiday sprinkles.
How To Make A Rum And Eggnog Latte
When I say this is EASY, I really mean it is EASY.
Here is what you do:
- place your eggnog in a pot and heat to just under boiling
- make your espresso in a measuring cup
- add some rum to a mug
- add the espresso to the mug
- froth the eggnog
- top the espresso/rum mixture with the foam
- sprinkle on some nutmeg
- DONE!
OMG, can you believe it? So easy! I guarantee you will be making this Christmas latte LOTS during the holiday season.
For this recipe, I used store-bought eggnog. I look for the creamiest version I can get my hands on.
YES, I know, ALL the extra calories but it is the holidays. Feel free to use a light version if you like.
If you make homemade eggnog, BONUS points to you!
Best Alcohol For Spiked Coffees
This is where you can have LOTS of fun. Making a different eggnog latte drink by switching up the alcohol. Of course, it is perfectly fine to have non-alcoholic eggnog lattes too (remember do not drink and drive).
Some GREAT things to add to eggnog are:
- brandy
- cognac
- bourbon
- vodka
- whiskey
- rye
- rum (white, dark, or spiced)
What is the best amount of alcohol to add to your latte? Most times it is 1 to 2 ounces per drink. It depends on the size of the latte and also the variety of alcohol you are using. This is personal preference, so I will leave it to you to find the amount that works best for you.
I even have a Boozy Bourbon Iced Coffee you may like to try. If you love the combination of chocolate and coffee, you will want to give this Chocolate Coffee Martini a try too. Just like dessert in a glass.

YES! This looks amazing. When I make my own eggnog during Christmas, I will make this! I just love the festive feeling an eggnog gives.

This made with homemade eggnog would be so good.

I have yet to find eggnog that I like at the LCBO. I’ve tried a few brands and the flavour just didn’t sit well with me. Maybe if we made it into a latte, it would change things! This looks like our favourite drink already. Can’t wait to try.
Homemade & Yummy
Just buy a good quality eggnog at the grocery store…or make your own…and add the rum!!
Denise
When I first saw this I didn’t realize it had espresso in it. This looks really tasty! I love lattes but I’ve never had eggnog so I’m excited to give this a try. Oh yeah the rum sounds good too! Happy Holidays!

Yes…this is so easy to make without the need for fancy equipment.

Oh wow, I’ve never thought to do an eggnog latte! And I have to admit, I’m a total creature of habit at Starbucks, and only ever get one thing. But this looks really good, and perfect for the holidays

Give this a try….you just might find a new seasonal favourtie.

What a great alternative to spending five bucks at the coffee store when I can enjoy this delicious drink at home in my pajamas. Thank you for sharing!

Although I do enjoy Starbucks (especially when I am out shopping), this is a great way to enjoy gourmet lattes more often. Plus, you can’t buy this drink at Starbucks.
Michelle Minnaar
This cup just looks full of warmth and love, I will have to serve this Christmas morning!
Homemade & Yummy
HAHHA…well I might start my day with the non-alcholic version.
Dana
The only reason I get excited about pumpkin spice lattes being released at Starbucks is due to the fact that egg nog lattes should be popping up soon 😉 THEY’RE SO GOOD. It’s such a nostalgic drink too, since Christmas as a kid *always* included egg nog. I’ve never thought to make it myself at home, so this will be a total treat this winter! I can sate the craving on a whim without leaving the coziness of my fireplace 😉

HAHAH…oh the joy of seasonal drinks. CHEERS and have a wonderful holiday season.
Lisa
I’ve never been a traditional eggnog fan, but I am a HUGE coffee drinker and this just sounds like a dynamite combination. Especially with the rum! I could drink this all day long. I only wish the weather outside matched the warm cozy feeling of this scrumptious libation. I’m sharing this recipe!

Canadian winters make this a must for the holiday season.

Whoa, you know I’ve never had eggnog in my coffee! Apparently I’ve been living under a rock. But rum with eggnog – YES. Love this drink – you’re right it’s perfect for tree trimming! Time to go get some rum and some eggnog!
Homemade & Yummy
You have never had eggnog in your coffee?? Head on out to the store and enjoy this drink SOON!! Cheers!!

So… I don’t drink at all through out the year. I just never have been a drinker. However, during the holiday season I always have this one drink called Cocito ( I am Puerto Rican). This is the only time of year I have it (its a traditional Christmas holiday drink). Anyway… this Rum & Eggnog Latte seems divine and probably my second “holiday” drink of the year!
Homemade & Yummy
I cannot wait to sip this while I trim the tree. CHEERS!
Christina Shoemaker
I am embarrassed to tell you I’ve never tried eggnog! I don’t know what’s wrong with me! But now I really want to because this looks amazing. I already love lattes so this just feels like the very best way to enjoy one during the holidays!
Homemade & Yummy
I think eggnog is one of those things you like or don’t. I took me a while to actually give it a try too.

Thanks so much…I have shared via my social media.

I’ve enjoyed eggnog lattes in the coffee shop, but haven’t thought to make them at home. So great! Plus, rum! Sounds delicious.
Chef G
It really is easy…and yes you cannot get rum at the coffee shop…not in Canada anyway. Enjoy…Happy Holidays!!
