Who doesn’t love the true holiday classic? Rum & Eggnog Latte is great to enjoy during tree trimming, present wrapping, or just to celebrate the holiday season. This spiked eggnog recipe is a family favourite.
Eggnog and rum has been a holiday drink for years. If you love Starbucks eggnog latte, this eggnog with alcohol is easily made at home (but feel free to make a non-alcoholic version too), it is still just as delicious.
Do you enjoy eggnog in your coffee? Are you a Starbucks fan? How many Starbucks holiday drinks have you had this year already? I could not wait for the pumpkin latte to make its appearance.
I will admit, I had my FIRST Starbucks Eggnog Latte the FIRST day it was available this year. That seems like an eternity already. I have enjoyed several others since then, and there are still a few holiday drinks I still need to try. I am going Christmas shopping on Thursday, the perfect time to sample another flavour at Starbucks.
We love making lattes at home so much. Chocolate Milk Latte and Holiday Festive Tea are perfect for warming up from the cold. Great drinks to sip by the fire, curled up with a book or watching a movie.
Eggnog is such a traditional holiday drink, and we love having it around to indulge over the holiday season. Rich and creamy, topped with a bit of nutmeg and spiked with rum, this holiday latte is great for spreading some Christmas cheer with family and friends.
MAKING RUM & EGGNOG LATTE AT HOME
If you do not have a fancy espresso machine, don’t fret (neither do I). You can still make this rum and eggnog recipe easily at home. Here is what you will need:
- good quality eggnog
- great tasting rum
- instant espresso (yes that is right)
- nutmeg (for topping)
- a milk frother (see link below for the one I use)
Did you know you can make a latte with instant coffee? I know the coffee fanatics may not think this is ideal, but just because you don’t have all the fancy equipment does not mean you cannot enjoy a quality eggnog coffee drink.
If you have never made a latte you won’t believe how easy it is, you will be a barista in no time. The key is GOOD QUALITY ingredients.
If you make your own homemade eggnog BONUS points for you. This would be perfect. If not, buy the best quality you can find, it really does make a huge difference.
Eggnog with white rum or eggnog with spiced rum is entirely a personal preference. Both work well in this recipe.
Good quality instant espresso is a MUST (unless you have an espresso machine). One day when I have my dream kitchen it will have room for this, but in the meantime, I use instant coffee in this eggnog drink.
Now, you want to create that nice foam on top of the latte. That can easily be done with a handheld aerolatte, and I have had mine for years. Works like a charm. Be sure to check out the Amazon link below.
RUM & EGGNOG LATTE EASY AS 1-2-3
- place your eggnog in a pot and heat to just under boiling
- make your espresso in a measuring cup
- add some rum to a mug
- add the espresso to the mug
- froth the eggnog
- top the espresso/rum mixture with the foam
- sprinkle on some nutmeg
As for the rum and eggnog ratio, that is also a personal choice. Some people like more, others like less, and some do not like it at all. I have enjoyed eggnog with alcohol and without. It is delicious either way. Check out my Buzzfeed post!! You just might see another drink you would like to try.
Although I do love Starbucks, I save a whole lot of money making lattes at home. Give this Christmas rum cocktail a try this holiday season. Rum & Eggnog Latte is the perfect drink for an afternoon with friends.
