In life we have so many choices. Like for instance do you prefer red or green? Do you like sweet or tart? Which do you like more, veggies or fruit? What happens if you like everything and want it all now?
If you are a blogger like me, we have come to realize that sometimes you can’t have it all….at least not all at once. We always look at the success of others, but usually don’t take into account the steps that it took to get there. We see success and just want it.
My very first blog post was Harvest Salad with Creamy Pomegranate Yogurt Dressing. This post you are reading is a rewrite of the original. Everything has changed, except for the original URL.
This salad has a lot of elements, textures, colours and tastes. These all come together beautifully to create a crisp, bold and unique salad, with the added bonus of being extremely healthy.
In the early days of blogging, I certainly had no clue as to what I was doing. All I knew was that I wanted success. Along the way I have started to gather all the complex elements and skills that will help me eventually reach my definition of success. All bloggers have a different idea as to what that means for them.
Web design, SEO, writing, photography, video, these are just a few of the elements that go into a blog. Complex little pieces and skills that fit together to create a visually and inspiring place that people like to visit.
This salad reminds me of my blog. Choices made along the way, and things that have changed. Figuring out (or trying to ) what works together and what doesn’t. Creating that end result that is captivating and satisfying.
Everyone knows how important fruits and vegetables are in a healthy diet. If for some reason you were not aware of this, Half Your Plate is a great place to learn. With lots of consumer tips, recipes and information, getting the right amount of nutritional goodness each day is not as hard as it seems.
Salads that use simple ingredients can really pack a punch in flavour and nutrition. Whipping up a quick salad dressing is easier than you think. Mix it up in a bowl, or throw everything together in a mason jar, add the lid and give it a shake. You have your dressing, and the leftovers are already to go in the fridge for later.
The greens can be any kind you like, same with the apples. Pick and choose whatever your taste buds crave. When you are bringing such wonderful foods together, it’s pretty easy to find a winning combination.
Pomegranate seeds are such delicious little pops of flavour. They burst in your mouth with that sweet/tart element, along with great texture. Not to mention they add beauty and colour to the plate. Aren’t they such a pain to get out? My kitchen walls get covered in juice splatter. I try to seed several at a time and put the seeds in a container in the fridge. It doesn’t matter what method I try, my walls look like someone used a can of pretty light red spray paint. How do you get those delicious seeds out without making a mess?
If you are that person that wants it all on one plate, this salad is the answer. Colours of red and green, flavours of tart and sweet, and the perfect combination of fruits and veggies. Fall has such a great flavour profile and this salad features lots of those tasty little gems. Brussels sprouts, pomegranates, cranberries, apples, all under a creamy yogurt dressing with a sprinkling of pumpkin seeds.
The original post certainly was not as complex as this rewrite. Along the way elements have changed, more have been added, but the end result certainly is closer to my definition of success than it was in the beginning.
Harvest Salad with Creamy Pomegranate Yogurt Dressing is the perfect start to any meal. If you want to make it into a dinner salad, all those holiday dinners are just around the corner. Add some leftover turkey and you have a complete dinner salad.

This salad is absolutely beautiful!! Pomegranate is one of my favorite flavors, only getting the seeds out of the pod is not the easiest task. I end up with that gorgeous pomegranate color all over me and the kitchen. It is worth trying again to make this salad, though.
Chef G
Yes…you have to really work to get those tasty seeds out…and then clean up the mess!!
Leslie
So exciting to see pomegranate back in the markets! I love the flavours of your salad – definitely pinning it!
