Grilled Green Beans in foil are perfect for any BBQ party. Grab some beans, season, wrap, and grill. Super delicious and so easy to make.
Grilled vegetables are the best, and our favourite way to enjoy them. Blistered shishito peppers make a great appetizer. Grilled turnips and radishes are a unique side dish for any meal.
Green beans are a healthy side dish. Cooking in foil locks in moisture, making them tender and crispy at the same time. Easy cleanup and you can even serve them right out of the foil packet.
Lately, I am all about easy recipes. Simple ingredients that produce flavourful results. Less stress in the kitchen means more time to do other things. Even better when I get hubby to cook stuff on the grill.
Grilling vegetables and fruits bring out such wonderful flavours. You can serve them as appetizers, sides, the main dish, and dessert too.
- Loaded Mushroom Caps are perfect for an appetizer or light lunch.
- Stuffed Avocado Boats are always a hit. Perfect as a start to any meal.
- Grilled Strawberries are super easy, and a great dessert idea.
- Smoked Apples are impressive and taste like apple pie.
This foil packet green beans recipe is one of the easiest ways to cook vegetables on the grill. No mess, easy cleanup, open the pouch and serve. You can even bake them in the oven!
Did you know there are different types of green beans?
- Green beans, and string beans (also called snap beans) are the regular garden variety, easily found in markets and grocery stores.
- French green beans (haricots verts) are a little thinner and have tiny seeds. They are generally more expensive and a little harder to find fresh. Easily found frozen.
- Romano beans (Italian green beans, or flat beans) are wider and flatter than the common green bean variety. They can withstand longer cooking in recipes.
- Long beans (yard beans) are a variety from China. They can grow up to 18 inches in length.
- Wax beans are the yellow version of green beans.
- Purple string beans are just like the green variety. The colour is so cool but does not last once they are cooked.

How To Grill Green Beans In Foil
Full instructions are in the recipe card below. You will be impressed by how easy this is to do.
- Wash and trim the beans.
- Place in a bowl.
- Add the seasonings, and mix to coat.
- Place the beans on a sheet of foil.
- Add a sprig of rosemary.
- Fold up the ends of the foil to create a pouch.
- Place on the grill and cook for about 15 minutes.
- Remove and serve.
You can place them in a bowl, or serve them right out of the foil packet. When hubby opened the pouch he said “This smells like Thanksgiving dinner”. Garlicky seasoned green beans are a super easy side dish with minimal effort.
Suggestions / Recipe Tips
- Fresh green beans are best. Yellow beans work just as well, or even a combination of the two. You can also use frozen beans, but you may have to adjust the cooking time.
- Garlic seasoning can be replaced with garlic powder or any seasoning blend of your choice. Italian or Greek would be a great alternative. You can also use fresh garlic as well.
- Olive oil can be substituted with avocado oil or any oil of your choice.
- Fresh rosemary adds wonderful flavour, it is optional. Other fresh herb choices would be thyme or oregano.
- Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days. Reheat in the oven.
Grilled vegetables in foil are such and easy and delicious side dish for weeknights or even holiday meals. Serve them alongside things like Baked Chicken Drumsticks, Chicken and Barley Casserole, Chicken Skewers, or even Turkey Meat Pie.
How To Make A Foil Pouch
- I like to use heavy duty foil for best results. If you don’t have that on hand, be sure to use 2 layers of regular foil.
- Lay a large sheet of foil, shiny side up on a kitchen counter or hard surface.
- Place the vegetables in the middle of the foil.
- Pull up the ends, I like to start with the long edge side. Crimp to seal.
- Tightly roll the short ends up towards the middle. You are ready to grill.
Green Beans Grilled In Foil
Ingredients
- 1 pound green beans (washed and trimmed)
- 1 teaspoon garlic seasoning
- 1 ½ tablespoons olive oil
- 1 sprig fresh rosemary (optional)
- salt and pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- Wash and trim the green beans. You can leave them whole, or cut them in half. Place in a mixing bowl.
- Add the oil and seasonings, mix well to coat.
- Preheat the grill to about 350-400 degrees F.
- Lay out a large piece of foil. Place the seasoned beans in the middle, fold up the ends lengthwise and roll the edges together to seal. Roll the short ends up towards the middle to form a pouch/packet. If you are using regular foil, wrap with a second layer. Heavy duty foil is good with one layer.
- Place the foil pouch on the grates, or the warming rack if you have one.
- Cook for about 7-8 minutes, flip the pouch and cook for an additional 7-8 minutes.
- Remove the pouch from the grill. Open carefully and serve. They can be served right from the pouch, or placed in a serving bowl.
