Smoothies are perfect for breakfast, lunch or post workout. This Nutritious Vanilla Bean Kefir Smoothie with Cherries & Figs is a delicious drink anytime of the day.

Smoothie in serving mugs with a straw and cherry garnish.

Do you love smoothies? We sure do. It’s such a great way to pack so much nutrition into a glass. Perfect for taking “on the run”, or if you are like me, sitting at my computer while I write this post.

Getting your daily requirement of fruits and veggies for some people can be a challenge. I love having a pile of fresh-cut, crisp veggies to scoop up hummus. Perfect for taking to lunch, and awesome as appetizers too. However, somedays I need a little extra help fitting all those healthy nutrients into my day. Smoothies make this so easy to do.

    WHAT IS KEFIR?

Have you ever tried kefir? It is highly nutritious and comes in a variety of flavours. I prefer it to buttermilk, and it works so well in things like kefir oatmeal pancakes. Hey, anytime you can add extra nutrition as easily as this, why not.

You can even make Healthy Kefir Popsicles for a nutritious treat. Great for hot summer days and after school. Kids love them, and they don’t even realize they are eating healthy!!

Fresh figs and a bowl of frozen cherries.

Although I love yogurt and use it frequently, this vanilla bean kefir added great flavour. With the addition of sweet frozen cherries and ripe figs, no additional sugar or sweeter was needed.

We love having smoothies for lunch. Even if we are going to be out, sometimes I will whip up a smoothie and “take it to go” with us. It is so easy, and I know exactly what I am getting in my drink.

I love kitchen gadgets, and I have to give all the credit to my loving husband who insisted we get a high-end blender (affiliate link). I know, some of you are probably saying “but they are so expensive”. Yes they are, but worth every dollar you save. What do I mean when I say save? With a high-end blender, there is almost no waste. Remove any large pits or seeds (like in apples), or tough inedible skins. You don’t even have to cut things into really small pieces either. After going through this baby you will have a very smooth, never lumpy, great-tasting creation. From soups to smoothies, ice cream to sauces.

We have had lots of blenders in the past, but I will be the first to admit, once you upgrade you will never look back. Plus they can be used for so many different things. Seriously it has been a great addition to my kitchen.

    WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SMOOTHIE?

Creating different smoothie combinations is easy and so delicious. Sometimes I make a smoothie using things up in the fridge. Other times I experiment with flavours to see what happens, like in my Hemp Chocolate Smoothie.

If you are looking for a plant-based recipe, this hemp heart smoothie is a great alternative. Clean, green, and vegan friendly. Diary-free and gluten-free too.

2 smoothies in mugs with a bottle of kefir in the background.

The great thing is that you can use fresh or frozen fruits and veggies. However you make them, smoothies can fill you up, cool you down, provide nutrition, all in a glass!! Easy to make, fun to drink, with endless flavours so you will never get bored.

This Nutritious Vanilla Bean Kefir Smoothie with Cherries & Figs is thick, healthy, sweet, and contains oatmeal to keep you full longer.  Hope you give it a try soon.

When is your favourite time to have a smoothie?

What a great way to start the day – love how much protein is in this recipe! Oatmeal is my secret ingredient for bulking up smoothies, too. I find they have so much more “staying power” through the morning with a little bit of fiber thrown in.
