Thick, creamy and the perfect blend of coffee and chocolate. Coffee and yogurt for breakfast sounds like a plan to me.
I will admit I LOVE mocha coffee flavours. Going to the coffee shop and having a cafe mocha latte is my favourite “me time”. But it doesn’t stop there. Any mocha coffee recipe I come across gets my attention. The chocolate/coffee combo is one of my favourites. How about a Chocolate Milk Latte and a Gluten Free Baked Chocolate Chile Mocha Donut?
There is something about that chocolate-coffee combination that tickles my taste buds. I am not a chocoholic but combine it with coffee, and you have me hooked. You can tempt me with chocolate and wine too.

I am crazy for yogurt. Back in the day, yogurt was pretty basic. Now the varieties seem endless.
Original, Greek yogurt, no fat, low fat, organic, grass-fed, and even nondairy options.
If that isn’t enough choice, you have all the flavoured yogurts too. From fruit on the bottom to blended yogurt, berries to exotic fruit, and yes even chocolate. You could eat a different flavour every day of the month.
Can you believe there is even a mocha yogurt? I scooped that up when I found it in the grocery store. Totally fell in love with the flavour, but not the calories. This particular brand falls in the “indulge less” category. Since that would not work for me, I had to find a way to put this in the “healthy” category.
HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE COFFEE YOGURT
We all know we should balance our diets. Eat healthy for the majority of the time. Indulge in the “less healthy” options now and again. Sounds easy right? Well, I sure don’t seem to find this so easy. Do you??
I am always looking for new ways to make healthy foods a little more on the indulgent side. It’s like having your cake and eating it too, without the guilt. This makes eating healthy a lot more fun. I’m not saying healthy food is not fun. Putting a little spin on a few things brings more interest to the table.
It only takes a few ingredients to make a version of the indulgent coffee yogurt. The best thing, IT IS HEALTHY.
You will need:
Have you ever tried SKYR yogurt? It is also called Icelandic yogurt.
Super thick, high protein, and low in fat. Classed as a fresh sour milk cheese, it is made with skim milk.
A traditional Icelandic breakfast would be mixing equal amounts of Skyr yogurt and porridge (oatmeal). It can be mixed with fruit as a healthy dessert option. I have used it in place of sour cream too.
Look for it next time you are grocery shopping. There are several brands available. I get mine at Costco.
You can, of course, use Greek yogurt in this mocha yogurt recipe. It will be just as tasty.
COFFEE BREAKFAST YOGURT ADDITIONS
This Healthy Mocha Coffee Yogurt is just as delicious as the store-bought brand.
Plain yogurt is tart for sure. I like it, but hubby does not. I find the vanilla flavoured yogurt is the perfect sweetness for me.
To make it sweeter you can add a bit of:
- maple syrup
- coconut sugar
- agave nectar
I find just the addition of FRESH BERRIES will also sweeten things up. You can add:
It doesn’t have to stop with berries. Other fruit will work too. Try some of these:
- fresh figs
If you haven’t been shopping, and fresh fruit is not in the house, you can use frozen fruit (although I find frozen is more tart). If that doesn’t work, add some:
- dried figs
- a bit of any type of fruit jam
Homemade granola is THE BEST!! The perfect “add in”. My Healthy Granola Cherry Almond Mocha recipe is the perfect topping here. It will add another level of delicious coffee flavour.
Seriously I have eaten this coffee yogurt for breakfast, lunch, and as a snack. It also makes as a healthy dessert option. When healthy tastes this good, you can indulge all you like.

Healthy Mocha Coffee Yogurt
- 1 1/2 cups Skyr vanilla yogurt
- 1/2 tsp instant espresso powder
- 1 1/2 tsp cocoa powder
- Mix the yogurt, espresso powder and cocoa together in a bowl.
- Divide into serving dishes.
- Add your favourite toppings.
