Substiutions/Recipe Tips

Chocolate milk provides enough sweetness for me. I used 2% milk, but you can certainly replace it with 1%, or even swap it out for non-dairy milk. Chocolate oat milk is delicious. Hemp milk is a great choice too.

Sweetener if needed can be agave, honey, maple syrup, or coconut sugar.

Fresh berries can be replaced with frozen berries. You can even switch up the berries. Try blueberries or strawberries.

Cocoa can be replaced with cacao or black cocoa.

Hemp Heart FAQ

Is hemp good in smoothies?

Yes! Full of protein, healthy fats and fibre, hemp seeds are a great addition to any recipe.
Check out this article on nutrition facts.

What do hemp seeds taste like?

They have a very mild taste and creamy texture. Not overpowering at all. Similar to the taste of pine nuts. You can also slightly toast them for a more nutty flavour.

This year I didn’t make NY resolutions for the simple reason that I always made them and they were unobtainable without some steel will. I just decided that would make small changes that made sense for me and to just take everything in moderation and not get too down on myself when I make a bad choice whether it be in the gym or in the kitchen. This smoothie definitely looks like a sweet reward for having a good day!

Everything you say is true; balance is the key (pizza trade-offs, in particular). So is this reminder nearly one month into the new year when resolve starts to weaken. A great smoothie like this is, for me, a meal replacement that keeps me going and feeling ready for a workout, or, if need be, shoveling!

Eating healthy is a challenge. Something as tempting as this smoothie, though, makes it easier! The chocolate raspberry combination makes this more like a treat than a health drink. Thanks for sharing.

I love the idea of adding hemp to smoothies! Or flaxseed or chia seeds – I’ve never considered any, but they’re all such great nutritious things to add. Time to start adding some to my toddler’s green smoothies.
