Making This Mixed Berry Smoothie
Smoothies are the easiest drink to make. All you need are the ingredients and a blender.
Wash the berries, toss in all the ingredients and blitz. Your smoothie is ready in minutes. In fact, you can make them ahead of time and keep them in the fridge until you are ready to sip.
Suggestions/Recipe Tips
Milk can be any dairy variety from skim to whole milk. Great non-dairy options are almond, coconut, and oat milk.
Yogurt makes it thick and creamy. I like Greek yogurt. Plain or any berry flavour is perfect. Regular yogurt also works, along with vegan and non-dairy varieties.
Fresh berries are super sweet. If berries are not in season, frozen berries are a great choice, and most times more economical too.
Dried coconut adds a nice nutty flavour. If you are not into coconut, you can replace it with chia or hemp seeds.
Mix up the flavours by changing up the fruit. Cherries, bananas, pears, peaches, you can’t go wrong.
Smoothies are an excellent way to pack in nutrition. I have even made them the night before and stored them in a glass drinking jar with a lid, when I know I will be in a rush in the morning. No need to skip on nutrition even when you are in a hurry. One of our favourites is my Apple Cottage Cheese Smoothie.

I know this is old but I just found this recipe & love these ingredients! I like to use frozen berries so it’s nice and frosty without getting watery. Plus frozen organic fruit is really affordable compared to fresh, and doesn’t matter that it would be mushy lol.
Does anyone else notice blackberries have a weird bitter taste if blended? It’s my favorite fruit, but I’ve never figured out how to use them in smoothies without that problem. Maybe it’s something in the seeds when they get crushed? Would love to know, and any ideas!!
Gloria Duggan | Homemade & Yummy
I find blackberries can be bitter even when they are fresh. This smoothie recipe is a great place to use them that’s for sure.
