Healthy Kefir Popsicles are easy to make. You only need 2 ingredients for these nutritious DIY yogurt popsicles.

Frozen kefir milk is a healthy alternative to ice cream. These homemade kefir ice pops are great to have in the ready in the freezer. My grandkids love these as an after-school snack.

Healthy homemade popsicles made with kefir and chocolate chips.

If you love vanilla chocolate chip ice cream, this healthy probiotic kefir popsicle recipe is for you! Super easy to make. Kid approved!

Is it warm where you live? We had a really rainy spring. Summer took a long time to arrive. Finally, we are getting the nice weather we have been waiting for.

When the heat turns on, the cold treats are in high demand. It is so easy to indulge in high-calorie treats with little to no nutrition. As a gramma, I like to make sure I have LOTS of healthy options for my little angels to eat. Healthy popsicles are always a hit. They tell me I make the best popsicles.Β

You can indulge now and again, but for the most part, we try to keep those β€œspecial treats” under control. When you make homemade popsicles, you can control what goes into them.

Have you tried my Banana Popsicles? With a few simple ingredients, you can whip up tasty ice pops in no time.

    What Is Kefir?

Have you tried kefir? It is a fermented milk drink. Similar to drinkable yogurt. Kefir grains are added to cow, sheep, and goat milk and allowed to ferment for 12-24 hours.Β

There are also non-dairy versions of kefir milk, and kefir water (which contains NO milk).Β

    2 ingredient kefir popsicles.

Many cultures use kefir milk just as we use regular milk. Over cereal, in baking and for making smoothies and kefir ice cream, salad dressing, and soup.

Kefir is something that can be found in my fridge all the time. I have used plain kefir in place of buttermilk. Healthy Oatmeal Chia Pancakes with Kefir are a brunch favourite.

Kefir drinks also come in a variety of flavours. I love using the vanilla in my Vanilla Bean Kefir Smoothie.

    Easy Homemade Kefir Popsicles

The first thing you need is some great popsicle molds. There are lots to choose from. I like to make sure they are food safe and BPA free. Check out these Amazon links for some great options:

    • *Zoku Easy Release
    • *Stainless Steel
    • *Silicone Ice Pop Molds

These kefir popsicles only require 2 ingredients! Full instructions are in the recipe card below.

    • Pour some kefir milk into a large measuring cup.
    • Mix in the chocolate chips.
    • Pour into the molds.
    • Freeze (waiting is the hardest part).
    • ENJOY!

    Suggestions/Recipe Tips

I used vanilla flavoured kefir milk, but feel free to use any flavour you like. If you can’t find kefir milk, you could use kefir yogurt instead.

Chocolate chips can be dark, milk, or semi-sweet. Switch it up and use a combination. White chocolate chips, raspberry, or butterscotch chips would be great too. You can always replace the chocolate chips with nuts or dried fruit.

    Kefir vs Yogurt

Both are healthy, nutritious, and a great source of gut health, but there are a few differences between the two. Kefir is thinner and usually consumed in a “drink” form. Yogurt most times is eaten with a spoon.

Milk kefir is a cultured dairy product produced by the fermentation of milk by lactic acid bacteria, as well as yeasts from kefir grains. Yogurt is a cultured dairy product produced by fermenting milk-specific microorganisms.

Kefir can contain more fat and protein than yogurt and more probiotic strains.

    Using Kefir In Recipes

As you can see, since kefir is very similar to yogurt, there are lots of great ways to incorporate it into your recipes. Here are a few tasty ideas to try:

    • Chocolate Cake
    • Squash Pancakes
    • Elderberry Water
    Delicious kefir ice pops.

If you haven’t jumped on the homemade popsicle kick, it’s time you did. Get yourself some ice pop molds and start experimenting in the kitchen.

These probiotic-rich ice pops are the perfect frozen treat to beat the heat this summer. Gut-friendly, natural ingredients, super easy.
