Just in time for apple season. This easy Apple Compote is the perfect topping for pancakes, waffles, yogurt, and more.

Have you visited the orchard yet? I can’t wait to get my hands on some fresh Cortlands. They are perfect for my fried apple tarts. If you really want a cool fall dessert, smoked apples are delicious.

There are so many great ways to incorporate fresh apples into recipes.

RECIPE and INSTRUCTIONS for this apple topping can be found at the bottom of this post.

If you are a fan of homemade applesauce, this recipe will be a hit. It’s like comparing smooth and crunchy peanut butter.

    Ingredients For Stewed Apples

You will be happy to know that it only takes a few ingredients for this compote recipe:

    • apples
    • cinnamon
    • nutmeg
    • maple sugar
    • butter
Ingredients for making this apple recipe.Pin

Any variety of apples will work in this compote recipe. I like to use apples that will keep their shape after cooking. Cortland, Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Northern Spy are great choices.

However, if you want your fruit compote to be on the softer side, Empire, McIntosh, and Russet are just what you need.

I used maple sugar in place of brown sugar. You could also use a bit of maple syrup if you prefer.

Spiced Apple Compote Is Easy To Make

If you can dice, toss and stir, you got this!

    • peel and dice your apples
    • combine the spices
    • toss the apples in the spices
    • melt the butter and maple sugar in a pot
    • add the apples (and a bit of water)
    • cook until soft

That’s it. Place the compote in a container or jar, and keep it in the fridge. This fall fruit recipe can be eaten warm or cold.

Cooked fruit is so delicious. Have you tried roasted blueberries? How about grilled strawberries? This fruit salsa has grilled pineapple in the recipe.

How To Use Apple Cinnamon Compote

If you are like me, I can eat this right off the spoon. It’s a great topping for:

    • pancakes
    • waffles
    • yogurt
    • ice cream
    • crackers
    • pork chops
    • chicken
    • fish
