Just in time for apple season. This easy Apple Compote is the perfect topping for pancakes, waffles, yogurt, and more.
With only a few simple ingredients, this homemade fruit compote will be a seasonal favourite. Nothing is better than the taste of cinnamon and apples in the fall.

Ingredients For Stewed Apples
You will be happy to know that it only takes a few ingredients for this compote recipe:
- apples
- cinnamon
- nutmeg
- maple sugar
- butter
Any variety of apples will work in this compote recipe. I like to use apples that will keep their shape after cooking. Cortland, Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Northern Spy are great choices.
However, if you want your fruit compote to be on the softer side, Empire, McIntosh, and Russet are just what you need.
I used maple sugar in place of brown sugar. You could also use a bit of maple syrup if you prefer.
Spiced Apple Compote Is Easy To Make
If you can dice, toss and stir, you got this!
- peel and dice your apples
- combine the spices
- toss the apples in the spices
- melt the butter and maple sugar in a pot
- add the apples (and a bit of water)
- cook until soft
That’s it. Place the compote in a container or jar, and keep it in the fridge. This fall fruit recipe can be eaten warm or cold.

How To Use Apple Cinnamon Compote

Easy Apple Compote
Ingredients
- 10 ounces apples (diced)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons maple sugar
- 2 ounces water
Instructions
- Peel and dice the apples and place in a bowl.10 ounces apples
- Combine cinnamon and nutmeg and add to the apples and toss to coat.1 teaspoon cinnamon, ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg
- In a pot over medium heat, combine the butter and maple sugar.2 tablespoons butter, 2 tablespoons maple sugar
- Cook until sugar is melted.
- Add the spiced apples to the sugar/butter mixture along with the water.2 ounces water
- Bring to a boil, reduced heat and cook until the apples are tender.
- Remove from heat to cool.
- Place in sealed container and store in the fridge.
