The flavours of chocolate and toffee merge together to create the ultimate chocolate cake recipe.

Moist chocolate cake infused with toffee bits and covered in a ganache frosting. The perfect celebration cake.

Birthdays are always a special celebration in our house, and a celebration always calls for a special dessert.

I made this cake for our daughter during her first year of university. It was her first birthday away from home and I wanted to make something special to bring to her. I still remember very carefully packing it in the car for our 2 hour drive hoping that it would still be ok when we got there.

She didn’t know what kind of cake I was bringing and was totally shocked when I carried it into her room. She loved it, and so did the rest of the kids that were lucky enough to be living on the same floor since she was nice enough to share.

    Elegant chocolate toffee cake.

It is one of those cakes that you totally don’t forget. In fact she said “Remember that cake you made me in university…that is the one I want!”.

Sort of like the time I tried sticky toffee pudding. Sometimes food memories are very vivid, even years later.

    Chocolate Toffee Cake Ingredients

When I say a lot of chocolate I really mean it, this is a chocolate lover’s dream cake. Between the chocolate, toffee bits and whipping cream, this cake is not lacking calories or taste. Birthday’s for for celebrating right?

Baking A Chocolate And Toffee Cake

I will say, this is not a hard cake to make, but it takes time. So if you are looking for a quick chocolate cake, this is not it. Full instructions are in the recipe card.

    Grated chocolate for cake.

You begin by grating the chocolate. Make the batter and bake the cakes. While this is happening you can also make the ganache since it needs time to cool. Once the ganache is cool, you can whip the cream and make the ganache frosting.

    Baking a chocolate cake.

Between the cake is a nice layer of ganache and some of the toffee bits. The remaining frosting is used on the outside of the cake. The toffee bits are the final topping. I coated the top edge of the cake, and along the bottom. You can decorate this cake however you like.

Next time you want to make an impression on a special celebration, this chocolate toffee cake is sure to please.
