    Birthday party cupcakes

Featured on BlogHer May 15, 2015

This year for my grandson’s 3rd birthday….Gramma (me) decided to make him some of his favourite Sesame Street character cupcakes. As you can see he loves Cookie Monster and Elmo.  Since I’m not a pro decorator, I was actually surprised on how easy these were to make. So…just in case you ever need to make something different for a kid’s party, I thought I would share my fun experience with you.

    Supplies for making cupcakes

You will receive a FREE PANTRY STAPLES PRINTABLE and easy recipes to make with them.

    The decorating supplies were:

    • 2 large disposable piping bags
    • 1 small disposable piping bag
    • Orange M& M’s (for nose)
    • Mini chocolate chips (for eyes)
    • Chocolate chip cookies (for mouth) cut in ½
    • Black piping gel (for mouth)
    • Red food colouring gel (for Elmo)
    • Blue food colouring gel (for Cookie Monster)
    • #10 decorating tip (for eyes)
    • #233 decorating tip (for fur)

    Cookies cut for mouths

Pick your favourite cupcake recipe and bake those up.  Mine were chocolate (of course).  Next whip up a huge batch of your buttercream icing of choice.  Mine was just a plain (all butter) buttercream, and I added some English Toffee flavouring just to make it a little more special. Colour your icings.

    Red & Blue Icing

Using the #233 tip you pipe out the base of the character.  Note:  The tip does become clogged up during this process so be sure to clean it out often.

Using the #10 tip you pipe 2 white eyeballs, then insert a chocolate chip (pointy tip down).

    Cookie Monster Cupcakes

For Cookie Monster go ahead and insert ½ a cookie for his mouth.

    Elmo Cupcakes

For Elmo place a orange M&M for his nose, and pipe some black gel for his mouth.

That’s it….aren’t they cute? Really I mean how can you not stand back and smile at your accomplishment….I DID!! Go GRAMMA 👍👍

    LOVE these cupcakes

Now I will have to tell you when he saw these come out at the party he as SOOOOO happy!!  It made my day to please my precious little guy.

    MORE MORE MORE cupcakes

Give these a try….I know some little person in your life will LOVE you for it!!

Great post! I made cupcakes like this (Elmo and Cookie Monster) for my daughter’s second birthday last summer but I did them differently. I like your method! 🙂
