Have you had time to try any of the wonderful meals and restaurants that are part of #Whitbylicious? Chatterpaul’s Awesome Dining Experience was so delicious, after reading this you will want to eat there!!
This post was sponsored by Chatterpaul’s. All opinions and photos are my own.
Recently, I have been trying to cover some of the wonderful foods and events found right in my backyard. Sure, there are LOTS of festivals around, especially if you live closer to Toronto. But did you know about all the great things that Durham Region has to offer?
When I found out that we had our own “licious” event, why fight the traffic going into the city? Eating at and supporting our local establishments is what we should be doing.
#Whitbylicious2017 Summer Edition
The summer edition of Whitbylicious runs from July 12-23, 2017. With 12 restaurants to choose from, enjoying a great lunch or dinner will be a delicious experience.
I was thrilled when Penny Johansen offered me the opportunity to try out what Chatterpaul’s had to offer for their dinner menu.
This was my first experience at Chatterpaul’s. I have dined at their sister establishment, Tetra Kitchen & Vines (also part of #Whitbylicious) which is located in Bowmanville.
Walking into the restaurant you are immediately greeted at the door, and I was thrilled that Penny herself actually was there to personally meet us. The warm smiles of the staff immediately make you feel comfortable.
The ambiance of the restaurant is warm and inviting. This is my kind of experience, especially with the open kitchen concept. There is nothing I enjoy more when I go out to eat than watching the pros in action. Chef Chad and his team certainly were busy creating wonderful dishes for the patrons to enjoy.
Our waitress Fareena was very cheerful. After giving her our drink orders, we now had the difficult task of choosing who was going to eat what. Since I had my wonderful hubby with me, we could experience almost all of the “prix fixe” dinner menu included in #Whitbylicious.
I’m not sure who was more excited, him since he gets to tag along (I hate eating alone), or me, since now I could sample LOTS of tasty dishes.
We started with a wonderful amuse-bouche, that consisted of a Cajun dusted homemade potato chip on top of a bed of chipotle aioli, topped with cheeseburger and caramelized onions. What a great way to get your taste buds singing. That aioli had just the right amount of heat, and who doesn’t love homemade potato chips.
For my appetizer, I chose the Calamari and Tomato Salad. I will admit, my experience with calamari in the past has not been great, but I really wanted to give this a shot. So glad I did. The arugula and spinach were the perfect bed to the very nicely cooked calamari, and the maple citrus vinaigrette was delicious.
Hubby had the Hoisin Chicken and Root Vegetable Salad. The tri coloured beets were sweet and tender. The marinated chicken had a nice flavour, and citrus beet vinaigrette brought everything together nicely.
What a great start to our evening. Fareena checked in to make sure everything was fine, and nicely topped up our wine glasses too.
Next, the main course. With 3 selections and only 2 of us, this was a little more difficult. I knew immediately what I was going to order, but hubby’s decision was a toss up. Since he was having a difficult time choosing between steak and pork, Fareena gave her expert opinion, and what a great opinion it was.
I chose the Atlantic Salmon Phyllo. OMG, it was so good. That little bundle of goodness was stuffed with caramelized onions, kale, crab, and lobster. A seafood lovers dream come true. The bed of steamed veggies along with the over the top delicious dill, mango and passion fruit sauce, rounded out the meal perfectly.
Curry and Jerk Marinated Pork Chop was the final decision for hubby (along with the help of Fareena). It certainly was the right choice for him. Once he took his first bite, he immediately said “This is the best pork chop I have ever eaten”.
Oven roasted to perfection, accompanied with caramelized mini potatoes, apple pear slaw, and calvados. The curry cream sauce was a masterpiece (compliments to the chef) and added so much flavour to the meal.
Ok, by this point I am getting very, very full. Dessert is coming up next. Thank goodness we could sit, relax and chat while our stomachs got ready for the final round.
I was so excited to see Carrot Cake on the menu. I LOVE carrot cake, and when I found out that this was a recipe made by Penny’s mom, well it was a sure decision for me. Family recipes hold a special place in my heart.
This cake was so good. Moist, you could see the nice little pieces of pineapple, and the frosting was the perfect consistency and had that wonderful cream cheese taste.
Chef’s Sweet of the Day was the other selection. Apple Crumble was the offering for the evening, and that just happens to be one of hubby’s favourite desserts. This worked out great!
Warm out of the oven, the delicious crumbly topping on sweet apples, had just enough ice cream to make this the perfect ending to a nice meal.
Ok, at this point I really think I should walk home. For $40 this 3 course dining experience is truly a delicious bargain. You still have time, but hurry it ends Sunday!!
If you are looking for a wonderful local restaurant, offering exceptional food and great service, Chatterpaul’s Awesome Dining Experience should be on your “to dine at” list.
