Have you picked up any new BBQ toys lately? Well, this Flame Boss 300 WiFi Smoker Controller is hubby’s new grilling friend. This post is HIS perspective on this new temperature gadget. It babysits the the grill so you don’t have to.
This post was kindly sponsored by Flame Boss®, all opinions are ours.
After you finish drooling over the Flame Boss 300 WiFi, (thinking about all the awesome meat you will be grilling), open the package and remove the manual. Download the Flame Boss app for your phone. It makes controlling the Flame Boss much easier. This way you will know exactly what your grill temperature is at the grate level, along with your meat probe temperature.
Read the easy to understand manual. It will help you to get the wifi setup. You should find it relatively easy when you know what to do.
Don’t do what I did, and try to get your wifi set up while you have your barbecue lit. I did my first barbecue with no wifi set up. Not only did it make things much more difficult to try and figure out, my wife was totally unimpressed. Dinner was a little late that night.
My second cook was very enjoyable with the wifi connected. This awesome BBQ gadget is the boss of the flame. With total control via my phone, setting and keeping the correct temperature to cook the meat is a breeze.
Light the barbecue. Fasten the alligator clip temperature probe to the grill, close to where the meat you are going to cook will be placed. Place the meat on the grill and insert the meat temperature probe.
DO YOU BABYSIT THE GRILL?
Before receiving our Flame Boss 300 WiFi Smoker Controller, trying to keep the temperature low, for a low and slow cook was impossible. When I closed the vents enough to keep the temperature at 225º F, the charcoal would go out for lack of oxygen, and it would ruin my low and slow effort every time.
Here is a little insight into why this controller is a MUST for any one serious about grilling perfection.
“I can’t wait to wake up every couple hours to check the smoker,” said no one EVER.
The Flame Boss® temperature controller for kamado-style smokers like The Big Green Egg lets you get a good night’s sleep and still serve smoked meat that ranks an 11 on the traditional 10-point barbeque scale. Just plug it in, set it and forget it. Flame Boss® takes it from there by controlling the heat with a blower that ramps up and down, while a meat probe monitors internal temperature so you know when it’s perfectly smoked. Flame Boss® lets you keep the lid closed, the temperate steady and the smoky goodness where it should be – encircling your meat, poultry and fish.
Did you purchase 2 extra meat probes and 2 extra Y adapters? You don’t need the extra probes, but I found that having 2 meat probes in the same piece of meat, let me see the difference in temperature in the “thick and thin” areas of the meat. You will have better control so you don’t over cook the meat. You will also be able to cook three different cuts of meat at the same time (if you have 3 probes).
Was our second cook successful using our new Flame Boss Smoker Controller? YES! It was so enjoyable to be able to relax, and not have to check the barbecue every ten minutes.
The app lets you check the pit temperature, the fan speed (the variable speed fan keeps the heat very accurate), and the temperature of each meat probe.
Would I recommend you get yourself a smoker/temperature controller ? That depends on you. Do you enjoy the great taste of barbecue cooked to perfection on your Kamado style grill? Would you like to make your grilling experience more enjoyable (not babysitting the grill)? Then my answer is a definite and resounding YES!
